Remember I said the 1s and 2s took place last night? At the end of the 2s there were 3 All-American pairings left, it's safe to say that they dominated. The eventual winners were Dan & Jugg. In the 1s, Dan was the winner. And that's todays updates - until tomorrow sometime.

Well, today's the day. All that waiting and training has come to an end - the Quasar World Championships is about to start. Last night the 1s and 2s were held in Coolock, as was the competition draw. The draw was interesting, there were 13 teams, and the groups are as follows:
Group A | Group B | Group C |
(Fri Afternoon) | (Sat Morning) | (Sat Evening) |
America A | Enfield | Borg |
MOTU | Covmouth | KY Jelly Babies |
Angela's Team | USA B | Jammy Dodgers |
MRS | Bradford | 1.4 Spira Team |
Shadow Warriors | | |
As you should already know, the top 2 teams from each group advance to the second stage - which is an 8 team double elimination bracket. The 3 third place teams go into a small playoff, and the top from that go through the next stage, to complete the 8 team bracket.
A short captain's meeting will be held this afternoon at 3.00pm, while the first game (America A vs MOTU) is scheduled to go in at 4.00pm. I'd like to wish the best of luck to all the 13 teams entering the competition, and let's hope that it's a good, fun one.

Good old Sunday Morning - home of the jam-packed cluster-fuck games that we all know and, eh, love. This morning was a rather crowded Regs turnout anyway, and then Angela, John and some American visitors came along. By the end of the day it was 11 v 10. Let's get to the first game, however, which was an E4 20 minute game, 9 v 10. I can't remember the teams so I can't be bothered trying. But it was an enjoyable game, but not one to be taken seriously, especially when there's like 8 people in the one base. But everyone seemed to be content with that, so after displaying some questionable football (soccer) skills in the car park, we came back in for another game. This after Dave Mc had arrived to make it 10 v 10. I made the teams myself, so remembering them should be a little easier. The red team were: Al, Dave2, Crum, Donnatta (Sorry - my spelling of crazy names sucks) Angela, Ger, Colin, Warren, Eoin, Shane. While the Green team consisted of Kev, Dave Mc, Conor, John, Aaron (Jumper), Andrey (Stretch 2), Paddy, Zack, Karl L., Keith. The green team won in the end by a pretty big margin - 190pts. When we got out another American was waiting (it's an invasion I tell you) - Jugg - with Ger McCann. After more messing about with the World's Biggest Sport, we decided to go in with the same teams, different colours, only the losers get Jugg. With the colours reversed, wackiness once again ensued and the end result was a win for the greens, just over 100pts. So we won on points difference :). The games were, as you could imagine, not the best, but fun all the same, although any questionable functionality of the guns was badly exposed. But there actually weren't many problems to speak of. After the last game people dispersed, although some of us stayed in the car park for a while to relive our Schoolboy football days - complete with errors. Thanks again to Crum, Donnatta (??), Aaron, Andrey and Jugg for playing, hope you enjoyed it. Thanks to John and Ger for making the short trip south, until Wednesday. Speaking of which should be a hell of a lot less crowded, and even still we could split the games up if it is.

It being less than 2 weeks before the World Championsips, you'd think that there'd be more seriousness in the games. But then that's never been the way with Tallaght, has it. The first game was only 15 minutes, Jammy Dodgers (Warren, Zack, Paddy) versus the rest (Al, Dave2, Colin, Ger) Karl? Anyway, they (JDs) lost and it set up the mood of jest for the rest of the evening. The next 2 games were E2, half hours, Al, Paddy, Zack and Warren versus Dave2, Colin, Ger, Karl. I came along and replaced an injured Dave for the last 10 minutes of the second. Dave then decided to go due to his injury (his not playing was precautionary) and left us with another 4 v 4 E2. This time the teams were Kev, Karl, Warren & Paddy versus Al, Zack, Colin, Ger. The latter team won by around 50pts. The usual people had problems with packs (I had problems with their morals) but most of us had no reason to complain - they were fine, as they have been for a while. Notable absentees: Dave, Conor (they have valid excuses), John, Blondie, Karl L. & Shane. But everyone can't play every week.
The competition is getting ever nearer, now only 8 days to go! But Jammy Dodgers won't be able to play on the Friday since new addition Shane McHugh has CA all day that Friday. Maybe they'll be in a group with the Borg!
I trust eveybody took part in the 10 minute solidarity stoppage this afternoon, if for nothing else just to have a break! That leads me to the quote of the day:
What do we want!
- Fry's Dog!
When do we want it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves. This morning there was another funday monday morning madness thing, 16 people played, so we had a mini-comp of 4v4. Plus a couple of other games. All for €5.70. The teams were picked randomly, and were as follows:
Team A | Team B | Team C | Team D |
Paddy | Bort | Blondie | Colin |
Warren | Dave Mc | Dave 2 | Zack |
Kev | Keith | Ger | Al |
Karl | Angela | Eoin | Karl 2 |
Each team played each other twice (2 games of 10 minute duration, Super 3), once each color. As the competition wore on, it became a 2 horse race between Team A and Team D, Team A winning the first game between the 2 to lead unbeaten at the half-way interval. Team D had lost once, Team C lost twice, while Team B had lost all their games. Despite losing to Team C, Team A beat Team D for a second time, winning having only been beaten the once. Team D lost twice, while Team C had lost 3 times. Team B had failed to win a single game. We finished like we had started the morning - with a quick E4 game. All in all an enjoyable mini-comp for everyone, and some good games and great value. Plus the weather, as it has been all weekend, was fantastic.

On a lovely Sunday afternoon, I have to ask myself what I am doing sitting in front of a computer. It's the usual SMC update. For the first 2 games (of which there were 4) we played 4 v 4 E2:- Dave2, Dave, Colin, Keith versus Kev, Conor, Warren and Ger. The former team won both games, although not by much. Then Blondie arrived to play, and we had the full compliment of MOTU (Al took a "break") versus the rest. MOTU won most comfortably. Dave 2 then had to leave, missing out on the last game, which was another good 4 v 4 E2. The games were enjoyable and good, plus there were no pack changes, which is always a good sign.
Monday Morning tomorrow will go ahead as planned, since we will almost definitely get the minimum requirement of players, and the cost will be the usual for such an event (€5 - €7). In case you hadn't noticed, in relation to the competition, there's only 12 days to go!
I can't wait. In the meantime, anybody got any extra Radiohead tickets?

First up: Monday Morning this coming St.Patricks Day - will go ahead if we have the numbers. Committed people so far include Al, Blondie, Ger, Karl, Dave2, myself. Jammy dodgers and SMC regs will most likely confirm, so it's pretty much on. But we could do with more "senior" regs to make it worthwhile.

11 of us played regs night last night, and we managed to squeeze in 4 games yet again, all of which were Super 3. The first game was a half hour long 5 v 5, with Al, Dave, Dave2, Zack and Warren (Green) taking on Karl, Ger, John, Colin and Paddy (Red), and the Green team came out winners. The second game was pretty much more of the same, 4 × KY players + 2 Jammy Dodgers (Zack & Paddy) versus 4 × MOTU + Warren. MOTU won by just over 300 points, and then they won by 150 in the return. Dave Mc sat out the last game, which left us with anoter 5 v 5, and we decided to pick teams. The Red team (Al, Colin, Karl, Ger, Zack) won that by around 20 points. A few of the packs had the dis/advantage of not being able to shoot or be shot - thanks to low batteries, but with them being drained, it's all good with the competition coming up. Plus Green 4 & Red 9 will be back in commission by the weekend:).
The next Bank Holiday is this coming Monday (St. Patrick's Day) and there will be the usual Monday morning thing for the dedicated players - provided at least 12 people show. Really, what else will you be doing?
Site update - South Shields photos from an Irish perspective will be posted on the site before Saturday. As will a World Championships page.
Bad news for the competition, but good news for the chasing pack (MKS, Covmouth, Enfield) is that the BORG are most likely not going to be able to attend the competition, one of their players is unavailable. The competition will obviously still go ahead although the title "World Championships" is cheapened with the loss of the UK & Ireland Champions.
Speaking of the competition: 15 days to go!

A whole 12 people played the regs games in SMC yesterday, quite a small number relative to previous weeks, and we had 2 × 20 minute E2 (5 on 5) and 1 × 20 minute E4 to finish (6 on 6). The first 2 games were the same teams, once each colour, and the teams were DaveMc, Dave2, Paddy, Warren & Eoin vs Kev, Ger, Zack, Karl & Keith. The first team won both games pretty comfortably, and they were good fast paced games. The joys of E2. Conor arrived later on, and joined in for the last game, alongside Al's Sunday Morning Quasar playing alter ego. The teams were Dave, Dave2, Conor, Paddy, Karl & Keith (Red) versus Al, Kev, Ger, Zack, Warren & Eoin (Green). A typical E4 game, it was close and very enjoyable, the Red team pulling back points in the final 5 minutes to come out just on top. 3 good games - no sign of Colin, Karl, Alison, Blondie, and Angela was late and didn't play. The packs were good, only a few minor problems, and they should be back in top condition by the competition. Which is good. And so the countdown begins: only 18 days to go!

Regs Night last night: In total 14 people played, and we had four games - 3 × half hour E4, and 1 twenty minute Super 3. Thanks to John, Ger, Craig & Mikey for coming over to play, and notable absentees were John McGann, Dave McMahon, Karl Laffan, Shane McHugh and, of course, Al O'Loughlin. Enough about people who weren't there, the first 2 games saw the same teams (once each color) which were Kev, Dave2, Colin, John, Paddy, Zack & Mikey Versus Al, Conor, Ger, GerMcC, Karl, Warren & Craig. My team, who were Green, won the first game by around 500pts, clocking the scoreboard in the process (thanks to the 30 base attack), and we won the second leg by 200pts. A few people (the usual) had some problems shooting packs. The third game was another E4, altough it was 7 v 6 since Ger McCann sat out. The teams were Karl, Kev, Colin, Zack, Paddy & Ger (Green) versus Al, Conor, Dave2, John, Warren, Craig & Mikey (Red). As you would expect, the Red team won comfortably. The Coolock lads had to leave after that, so the rest of us finished with a 20 minute Super 3, with Al, Dave2, Colin, Zack and Ger beating Kev, Conor, Karl, Paddy & Warren by roughly 70 points. All very enjoyable games. All good games. "Have a break, Have a game of Quasar"

Because of the South Shields competition yesterday, and the fact that 4 Tallaght regs went to it, SMC yesterday was a bit different, but no worse in their absence. As usual 3 games of 20 minute duration were played, an E2 followed by 2 Supercharge 3s - just like the old days. Playing were Kev, Conor, Karl, Karl2, Paddy, Ste, Alison, Eoin and Keith, the first 2 games saw unbalanced teams, but we finally got it right for the last one, which had the small margin of 46pts.
Although the South Shields tournament was yesterday, and they have the internet on computers now, we still don't know how are players got on. We know they didn't place top 3 (Borg, Enfield & Covmouth did), but then again, we knew that beforehand. In conclusion: "Don't use Quasar in the fish tank.............because this parody is wearing very thin"
