Regs Night update - 12 people played, and we had 4 pretty good games. The first one went in half an hour early - there was a CP game at 8.30 - and there was not much about the game to speak of. Not that it was bad, but the game was disrupted by players entering on a couple of occasions, and by the end of the game the teams were a bit lobsided. Anyway, half an hour later we had the first E4 game of the night, which was a very good game by all accounts the teams were Ger, Zack, Al, Blondie, Dave, Kev (Green) Versus Paddy, Warren, Karl, Dave2, John, Colin (Red). The Green team won in the end by a margin of over 100pts, although the game was close up to the last few minutes.
The third game was another E4 game, and although good was nothing on the previous game, since there was less enthusiasm. Warren had to go and Dave sat out the last game, which meant that it would be a 5 on 5 , competition format. This gave KY a chance for team practice, since their whole team was present. Their opponents were Dave2, Al, Kev, Paddy & Zack, and it was a good game in which KY got back to losing ways, they were defeated by just under 300pts in the 20 minute game. And that was last night. "This time of year makes me feel so.....mop"

Sunday Morning had another pretty big playing turnout today - 15, and although we were only able to play 3 games, they were of pretty good quality - with the closest of the games being the second one, a difference of 9 points.
Profile updates were made today, a new photo of John McGann, and at last photos for Karl Kelly and Shane McHugh. "Damn TV, you've ruined my imagination, just like you've ruined my ability to -- to, um...uh...oh well."

The Coolock overnight, scheduled for this evening, has been CANCELLED. Due to management issues and a lack of interest. Hopefully one will be able to be had in the future, to lower competition costs (and since I wasn't at the last one).
On the message boards at the moment are discussions about who will come where in the competition? and whether or not red lasers should be used in the competition - if you feel strongly about that you should probably go and vote. "Yo Holmes, we're looking for a microwave oven"

Photos from Wednesdays Challenge Match between KY Jelly Babies and Jammy Dodgers are up - you can see them by navigating through the Photos page. There's 20 of them, and Jammy Dodgers don't have a team photo because they left it too late!"Looks like we're experiencing some blowback from the wig offensive"

Another milestone reached: the hits counter since August clocked it's 5000th hit today, and as I type the total stands at 5001. Rankings from yesterdays Challenge Match are visible from the msg brd, for anyone who could give a crap. Photos from Wednesday will be up by Saturday's end, and that's a promise.

The Challenge Match between KY Jelly Babies (Colin McAnaspie, Ger Byrne, John McGann, Karl Kelly, Alan O'Loughlin) and Jammy Dodgers (Paddy Kelly, Shane McHugh, Zack Brennan, Karl Laffan, Stephen Warren) took place last night, a little later than planned (7.30pm), and after 2 half hour long legs, Supercharge 6, KY came out on top quite comfortably. The margin of victory was 356 for the first game (with KY green, JDs red), and it was 376 for the second leg - Giving KY a victory of 732 points, well over 300 each game. It's pretty safe for them to call themselves Tallaght "B". Expect game Stats to be posted later on today, and photos (courtesy of Blondie's digital camera) before this weekend.
To Regs Night, which saw another good turnout, too good in fact - 14. All the Challenge Match participants stayed, and added to that were 4 more players - MOTU's Dave, Dave2, Al and Kev. The first 2 games were very good and close E4 half hours, the first game difference was 5 points, and only around 40 in the second. The third game was less tight, Paddy, Zack and Karl Laffan had to go, and Dave2 sat out so the game was a 5 on 5 E2, and it's been a while. The teams were pretty unfair and after a close first 15 minutes, the rest was a walkover for Al, Dave, Blondie, Colin and Ger. The last game was a 4 on 4, with Warren and Dave sitting out, and it was an alright 15 minute E2. 4 games and a Challenge Match - not bad for €8.90. And strangely enough nobody was caught breaking the rules in the Challenge Match.
On the downside, we will all be guaranteed to be dying of flu by the weekend thanks to Karl Kelly and his tissues, and Karl got more bad luck when he lost his wallet. "No, we'd like to die of thirst"

The Borg's Irish Quasar Marathon continued yesterday, during Monday Reg's Night, in Coolock, and was an interesting and fun night for all. Everyone seemed to play at least 3 games, and there was a marked improvement in the visiting teams play as the day wore on. The games (that I participated in at least) were good, although somewhat spoiled by the occasional dodgy pack on each side - which is to be expected with that many games and a non-competition approach to the pack's upkeep. MRS seemed to enjoy their games against the UK and Ireland Champions, almost beating them on a few occassions, while Borg enjoyed getting to play every game :) Conveniently enough, we didn't get to see the only copy of the Competition Rules, but there's always next time.
At the end of the night the popular opinion was that the competition will be the most competitive, close and exciting that we've seen in the last few years, with the 3 favourites - Cali, Borg, MRS - seemingly able to beat each other on their day, and in with a very good shout. As for the rest - time will tell."Welcome to the Tallaght Asylum for the Quasar Insane!"

Let's talk about Sunday Morning Club earlier today - 18 "Regs" played this morning, good for Tallaght's number of players, not so good for the games. The general consensus was that it was just a little crowded, 3 floaters, 3 defenders and 3 attackers per team makes for a bit of a cluster fuck I think you'll agree. But for the most part, the games (of which we had 4) were pretty good, and good humoured also. Things are on the up *touches wood*.
The BORG are in Ireland today, getting some arena practice in with mind for the World Championships in March, and will be playing tommorow, during the Coolock Regs Night. In more competition-type news, organiser Graham has announced (albeit unofficially) that all the prospective teams should be recieving complete information, rules, formats, etc., before the start of February, which is fair enough.
It has been confirmed, and booked (ssh!), so the long awaited KY Jelly Babies - Jammy Dodgers Challenge Match will take place this Wednesday at 7.00pm, before Regs Night. The games will be 5 on 5 Supercharge, with half hour duration per leg. An added sweetener is a Points Difference Bet between the teams (tut, tut - that's the bad influence of the English players and their gambling culture :)) which should make things interesting.
Here's a handy tip: Stay away from the message boards. They are the DEVIL!!

Well, there was no Challenge Match - only 4 of the Jammy Dodgers turned up - but Regs Night was easily the best in quite a while, and rid us of the memory of the Wednesday before. For the first 2 games it was an uneven 7 on 6 , since present were KY (Colin, Ger, Blondie, John, Karl), 4 Jammy Dodgers (Paddy, Karl, Shane, Zack) and 4 of MOTU (Al, Dave2, Conor, Kev). As is to be expected, the team with more players won both games easily, but they were very good games nontheless. Obviously, all the games were E4, and the teams were evened for the third game when Ger hurt himself and sat it out. He ended up joining in though, when Conor got injured, and then had to leave the game. He had to leave early, and both Ger and Shane sat out the last game, which was an excellent 5 on 5. 4 very good games, and on a personal note, I actually enjoyed attacking with Blondie (OMG), but probably only because I was good :) - 21 bases and 34200 in the second game testifies to that fact. In other good news, the packs were better than fine, the only problems were with Green 2 and Red 8, and they were pretty minor.
A late Happy Birthday to Paddy Kelly of the Jammy Dodgers, who's 17th birthday was yesterday.
As for the KY Jelly Babies Vs Jammy Dodgers Challenge Match, the plan is to try again next week, at the earlier time of 7.00pm. The moral of the story - don't let Ger organise anything."Top Gun - Master Blaster!"

Challenge Match tonight! Well, supposedly. KY Jelly Babies will take on the Jammy Dodgers in two 15 minute Supercharge games, with 5 players per team (ugh) to decide who the Tallaght "B" team is. That is, of course, if everyone shows up. Regs Night will go ahead as usual, after the games are finished.

Quasar's not broke anymore. Well, it is, but not as bad as on Wednesday. The Arena doesn't stink, there is no big leak in at the red energiser, and the as regards power and the system, everything is back to normal. It seems someone shouted pretty loud. Roll on Sunday Morning.

Argh! Regs Night was a disaster yesterday, but at least we didn't have to pay. First of all, there were 12 people in total present, not a bad turnout for a cold January evening, but, since Leisureplex have a habit of fecking up everything Quasar related, the only surprise is that it took so long to feck up Quasar itself. Apart from the obnoxious stench that travelled from the red maze through to the gun room, and the massive leak at the red energiser, there was the little matter of not being able to play a full game. At convieniently (not for us) unpredictable and irregular intervals, the power was shorted - the lights went off and came on again, and the Quasar system switched off and rebooted again, ending the games. Fantastic. And all because of a a couple of useless strobe lights. I feel most sorry for John McGann, who was having his best game in a year in the first game, and was untouchable, until with 3 minutes left the game ended prematurely without scorescheets. And Angela, who after being promised a lift home, was abandoned, and then missed the last bus and had to get a taxi into town. But at least everyone got a refund. And although it might seem that things are the worst they could possibly be, the packs are back in well working order, which is a small light at the end of the tunnel. Al and Dave will shout and scream and complain, the managers won't listen, nothing will change, and we'll try again next week. Until then. "When the power runs out, we'll just hum.....a total waste of time"

A belated Happy New Year to all, and a happy birthday to Al McMahon who's 21st birthday was on December 31st 2002.
As far as Quasar related news goes, there was a "New Years Eve Extravaganza" on Tuesday morning, but for the second time in a week only 11 people were able to attend. With the next one not being 'til March, let's hope people would care to show up. We decided on a 3 team competition again, with random teams of course, and we ended up with Al McMahon, Kev McMahon and Dave Shiels on the 3 person team, while Dave McMahon, Ger Byrne, Karl Laffan and Bort (a new guy) on 1 team, while Alison, Stephen Warren, Keith & Eoin made up the loser team. By the end of the competition Karl Kelly and Blondie had arrived, so we played a few more games, 6 on 6 and 6 on 5, until about 2.00pm when things were wrapped up. The best thing was, of course, the flan Birthday Cake that Dave Shiels' mother made for Al (for whatever reason) which was light and delicious, and hungrily devoured by the regs.
Later that day came Angela's party (more of a small social gathering but good nonetheless), and amazingly, nobody threw up. Must be a first. The Holy Special Edition of the original Batman Movie was watched, and really is a must see film just for the Bat Ladder and the Shark. On New Years Day in the afternoon we played Pictionary, and although Angela was twice on the winning team, everyone was amazed at how Philly was able to get Texas, Mosaic and Locomotive(It was the drawings :)).
Regs night last night had a pretty good turnout, we were able to have a few 6 on 6s even though 4 people who attend most weeks didn't show. All the 4 original Jammy Dodgers (Karl, Stephen, Paddy, Zack) were present, as were 3 KY (Ger, Colin, Blondie), 3 MOTU (Dave Shiels, Al, Kev) and Angela and Chris. 5 games were played, although the first 2 were only 15 minute games, and all but the very first (which was Super 3 because it started 5 on 5 ) of the games were 6 on 6 E4. Nice. The games were good and the packs held up well (considering the treatment they got over the Christmas period) and there were only a few complaints, that were mostly just because players were getting beaten. The big question remains: Did Conor get to work on time this morning? Anyway,"And that exploding shark - was pulling my leg"
