Yawn, we had another 4 game Regs Night yesterday, a few no shows and the majority of packs were working well, but all in all it was a typical post competition regs night (no sign of desire or anything resembling skill) , although it was a pre-competition regs night. Strange that. Had I have paid I would have been a little pissed off with the quality of games. Then again, had I paid I might have been motivated to do something about it. 2 factors in the not so competitiveness of the regs night were the number of people - 11 - and the fact that every game was a Supercharge 3, half hour long. The 11 people who played were Kev, Al, Dave2, Colin, Karl, Ger, John, Warren, Karl2, Paddy & Zack. Having said that they games weren't great, most of them were alright if a little static, but the regs night was typified by the last game, when the green team bonged each other about a million times in the base before the start of the game (they knew they would lose, naturally) so that the reds had to do nothing but stand in the arena looking busy for the whole game to win. And they did.

Until SMC, which will be without Ger, Colin & Angela (thank God!) and Alan won't be working, because they'll be taking part in the South Shields competition on Sunday. The big question remains, will I bother getting up to go running? Only time will tell. "Image is Nothing..........Quasar is Everything.........em, Sprite

Yesterday morning's SMC was good, we had 2 half hour games, and a 15 minute game, all E4, 8 v 7. The games were very good - there was one close one (25 pts) and strangely enough, without much work having been done, the packs were for the most part working fine. Thanks to Craig for coming over, the other players were all the Jammy Dodgers, Karl, Colin, Ger, Dave2, Conor, Kev and Angela, and, of course, Keith & Eoin. Since it was yesterday, I can't remember much about the games, so I'll spare you my biased and longwinded review of each game, and instead just say that IMO it was the best SMC for about a year.

Just a reminder, the South Shields competition will be taking place next Sunday for those people lucky enough to be going, and at around the same time, Man Utd will be hammering Liverpool in the League Cup Final....Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go off and cry.

Regs Night: 4 games played again, we started and finished kind of late - the first game didn't go in until 8.45pm. Anyways, the first game was slightly lobsided - the Red team who consisted of Al, JohnMcG, Ger, Peanut, Warren, JohnMcL beat the Greens, Dave2, Karl, GerMcC, Karl2, Zack, Paddy pretty comfortably with a margin of 150+ points. The game was E4 half hour in duration, as was the second leg in which Kev came in for Dave2 (didn't want to play????). The loser team got it's revenge - winning by just over 100 points in the return, mostly due to some fanastic work in attack, where they got 28 bases (nice one Zack). But they lost on overall points difference. The third game, which was probably the slowest and worst (not that it was bad), was even more unfair, with the Green team getting beaten in every area of the game, and losing by around 200. People were worried about the packs, I honestly had no trouble shooting anyone, apart from when my gun was not working! At this stage John, Peanut, Ger, plus Philly and Jamie who were interested spectators, had to go, thanks again guys for coming over. The last game was a 20 minute Supercharge 3 game, just like the old days, in which Al, Ger and Dave2 took on Karl, Kev and John McGann, and won - only just - by 28 points. But they didn't get any bases :)

And that was last night, apart from the big teenage CP game which myself and Karl went into (thanks Ste), which was fun, (that cancel) apart from missing out on a Gold Grade scoresheet by 3 shots. But who needs one when you've already got it.........
So where were Dave, Conor, Colin, Shane and Blondie? Who cares, if they had've been there we wouldn't have had enough packs."Oh, yeah. I'm never going 12 minutes without a Slurm again"

Sunday Morning earlier was pretty good, we were joined by Coolock veterans John and Philly, and unexpectedly by Cojuju (Conor Junior Junior - Keith's younger brother), and we had three 8 on 8 E4 games. The first 2 were played with the same teams : Colin, Ger, Kev, Conor, Zack, Karl, Shane & Keith Versus Dave2, Angela, Philly, John, Paddy, Karl2, Warren & Eoin, and the first team won both games quite comfortably. The last game was John + The Jammy Dodgers + Keith & Eoin Versus the rest, and needless to say the rest won easily. Despite Red 5 being notoriously unkillable, according to Karl and Philly. Anyway, the games were good, if a bit crowded (as every Sunday).

Blondie has apparently begun his sabbatical, he didn't show this morning, and we all slagged Shane for going to the cinema with him on Valentine's Day. Just confirms what everyone thought..."Don't buy socks in a normal shop, Dougal - they'll shaft you every time.

We've just reached over 6000 hits in the last 7 months. Thank you.

Regs Night: 4 games, all of which were Supercharge 5, 3 second base delay, and plenty of broken packs to talk about - mostly on the red side. But the first 2 games at least were played in the right spirit - the second game saw an upset as the 5 man team of Al, Blondie, Conor, Warren & Karl beat Kev, Dave, Dave2, Colin, John and Ger by about 10 points. But the 6 men pulled through in the return - the 3rd game, with a big victory. Conor had to go and Dave sat out the last, so we had a 4 on 5. Since all of the KY Jelly Babies were present, they chose to play together against the remaining 4 players - Al, Dave2, Warren and Kev in a 20 minute game, and KY lost by just under 200 points. Surely this 200 point defeat couldn't be put down to one half-broken back pack of someone who didn't bother playing properly, but perennial pack complainants Ger and Blondie seemed to think that it could. Obviously. And that was that, a rather disappointing regs night by any standard.

Other news items: 4 "Tallaght" players will be participating in the South Shields competition next month - Angela, Al, Colin and Ger - although not necessarily on the same team. Some of them will be teaming up with Darren and Casper from Bedford. Also, yesterday Blondie announced his intentions to go on sabbatical from playing Quasar because he's "sick of people cheating". If I were to use that excuse, I would have quit 3 years ago....

Annoying news. The rest of the site, other than this page and the Message Board, is down for the rest of the day, thanks to this site. Bandwidth thieves - it seems they've been linking to the site to see pictures of Philly Doyle getting his head shaved all day. Thanks alot, people. Anyway, since I exceeded the bandwidth allowance for the day, the site will not be available until around 6am tomorrow morning (GMT). It sucks I know

SMC this morning was A-ok, 15 players made for more people-packed madness, but the 3 games that we played were pretty good. We had a full JDs and MOTU turnout (Al was working a.p.u.), smc regs Angela (sorry), Keith & Eoin and 3 fifths of KY - Colin, Ger, Blondie. The packs weren't great - there were a few changes - but on the other hand, they weren't too bad. World Championships update: 48 days to go!! Try it, red, and you lose an arm!

Regs Night 05/02/03: 10 people played - Both Karls, Shane and Conor (still sick) didn't show, while Ger didn't play, so there was a 10 person turnout - Al, Kev, Dave, Dave2, John, Colin, Blondie, Paddy, Zack and Warren. We played 4 games - 3 half hours and 1 twenty minute to finish - all of which were played in the competition format of 5 on 5, Supercharge 5 lives and 3 second base delay. Overall the games were excellent, there was some good teamwork on show, and some interesting and imaginative play. All the games ended up with an over 100 point difference, but most were closer than they seemed and were very competitive.

On a not-so-good note, the Jammy Dodgers were obviously disappointed upon hearing the news that the Coolock Junior Team (AIDS or Shadow Warriors) didn't accept their challenge, at least not yet anyway, so there probably won't be one in the near future. "Are those my feet??"

Sunday, February 02, 2003

It's official, January 2003 was the best month as regards hits for Quasar Tallaght Online. Last month we achieved 1167 hits, most of which were due to the surge in message board activity over the last two weeks. Also, the highest daily hit total was recorded, 64 hits on January 27th.

Hmm, Sunday Morning Club today was a non-event as far as I'm concerned. The regs got to play 3 games, all E4 & 20 minutes, and the only thing of note was that John McLeod made the short trip over the city to play, which was very welcome. He brought with him news that confirmation of the date of the rescheduled overnight will be made in the next week or so. The last game of the day was pretty good, 8 v 7, and a victory of just under 50 points for the 7 player Green Team. Also, it seems people are getting back into the habit of blaming packs rather than themselves for missing shots, which has seen a sharp increase in the number of pack changes in recent weeks. Perhaps it is time for "The Test", to put this subject to bed for a while at least.

Finally, the Jammy Dodgers, fresh from their 700+ point defeat to KY less than a fortnight ago, are in a Challenge Match mood, and want to Challenge Coolock's junior team, AIDS (aka Shadow Warriors) to what could be the first 4 leg Inter Centre Challenge Match since April 1998. Let's hope they can get that sorted in the near future. "I'm insane - what's his excuse"
