Updates: I finally got rid of the annoying error messages that have been popping up over the last couple of weeks, at the expense of web tracking stats for the time being. The second set of World Championship Photos are now up, just navigate through the photos page to find them.

A belated Wednesday Night update - 13 people showed up, and they were Al, Kev, Conor, John L,Colin, Paddy, Angela, Zack, Karl L, Jamie, Peanut, Nialls, and Snobs. I sat out the first 2 games which were 6 v 6 E4, half hour long, and the teams for both games (reversed colours) were Al, Conor, Karl L, Zack, Snobs, & Peanut, (who won both games, the first by 50, the second by close to 200) versus John L, Colin, Angela, Paddy, Nialls and Jamie. For the third game I subbed for Conor "I have a stitch" Farrell, and the teams were (Red) Kev, Angela, John L, Peanut, Jamie, Nialls versus (Green) Al, Colin, Zack, Paddy, Karl L and Snobs. The red team won by a slender and lucky 2 points. That was the end of the regs games, since there was a half hour CP game at 10.30pm, and there was no point waiting for another game."Show us this The Wheel you speak of!"

Last night, the Coolock leg of the Jammy Dodgers versus Shadow Warriors Challenge Match took place. In Tallaght, both games were shared, but the Jammy Dodgers had come out with an overall victory of 137pts. In Coolock though, it was an altogether different story, with an extremely one-sided match. The Shadow Warriors had Snobs playing instead of Nialls, alongside Peanut, Jamie and Simon. While the Jammy Dodgers were missing Shane and Karl, so Eoin & Keith came in (one played each leg) alongside Paddy, Warren and Zack. The JDs (with Keith) were Green in the first leg, but lost by 253pts - 529 to 276. The second leg saw more of the same from the Shadow Warriors, who annihilated their Tallaght opponents by 555pts - 683 to 128, the Jammy Dodgers had no reply to the onslaught from the Shadow Warriors, and seemed to give up after just a couple of minutes. This result means an overall victory for the Shadow Warriors - by 808pts, dwarfing the Jammy Dodgers victory of 136pts from Tallaght. Stats will be posted on the message board by the end of the day. My suggestion - the Shadow Warriors should challenge KY sometime soon...

Happy Easter. SMC this morning was a massive non-event, in that of all the people who play the regs games, only 4 showed up : Keith, Eoin, Peanut and myself. In all there were 9 people, most of whom were SMCPs, and we played a few half hour Super 6 games. It was fun. As was the eliminator game, which I played in (and kicked ass!). But I chose not to take the €20 voucher, and so the winners of prizes were Eoin, Keith & Peanut.

Later on today the second "leg" of the Jammy Dodger - Shadow Warriors Challenge Match will take place, in Coolock, game-on is scheduled for 6.30pm. The game format is as it was in Tallaght 2 weeks ago, with 4 players per team. There are worries for he Jammy Dodgers, though, in that they will be without both Karl and Shane, so Eoin and Keith will be subbing, with one playing each game. Should be good...

I love it when my words come back to bite me in the ass! Depressing updates today - I was a little optimistic when I estimated that I'd have the photos from the competition by this weekend. It seems most shops don't open over the Easter Weekend, and had I been able to send the film to be developed it wouldn't have been back until Tuesday. As it stands, we're looking at an eta of late next week. Also, the annoying error messages that have been popping-up over the last couple of days have not gone unnoticed - It's an error in the site tracking code, I'm working on an answer and hopefully it'll be fixed asap.

Wow! Strange regs night last night, upwards of 20 people were there, although no more than 18 played at any one time. Anyways, those of us who were there include: Al, Kev, Dave Mc, Dave S., Conor, John McG, John L, Philly, Ger McC, Craig, Mikey, Jamie, Angela, Colin, Karl K., Ger B., Blondie, Paddy, Karl L., Zack, Warren. 4 games were played in all, 3 of which were half-hour-long E4s, and the last was a 20 minute Solo Super 6 with only 7 people, since most people had gone home or chose to sit out. Obviously, there were some pack problems, and some exagerrations, but the consensus was that the Red packs were more unkillable, but honestly I only had a couple of problems.

For the first 2 games, the teams were as follows: Al, Angela, Colin, Ger B, Karl L, Craig, John L, Zack, Warren, versus Conor, Dave S, Blondie, John McG, Paddy, Jamie, Mikey, Karl K. The latter won the first game, when they were green, but only just. In the return, Conor sat out (since he wasn't in the arena when the game started) and so Philly took his place, while Dave S joined in late. They won again, although they were losing until Angela left because "Blondie was being an asshole". As per usual, Ger Byrne and Karl Kelly continued to complain about the packs being broken (yawn). First off, they're not that bad, second, everyone else can deal with it. Third, why don't you do something about it if it's that bad. Just stop bloody whinging. And when I tell someone to stop complaining, it must be bad! For the 3rd game, Dave Sheils and John Lynch sat out (due to injuries), and I joined in (in spite of an injury). The red team won by roughly 200pts, since the vast majority of the Green team didn't actually try because the packs were bad and it was so crowded. It kind of felt like a Monday night. The last game was a solo supercharge between Kev, Karl, Blondie, Paddy, Warren and Zack (from the comfort of the briefing room) and the winner was me, although the only person to get a base was Zack (sporting a mohican-type haircut). It was a fun game, but not actually a good game in terms of Quasar played. By that stage, most of the Coolock regs had left to go home, and Dave Mc finally arrived. Pity I had used up all the film. And that was Wednesday night. In conclusion - good fun, bad quasar."I don't know, why you bother."

Hmmmm - Wednesday. Apart from the obvious blah blah regs night tonight, I'd like to apologise for missing any kind of SMC or Coolock regs night updates, since I was at neither and second hand reports are not my thing. Needless to say, though, they sucked with the lack of me.

Now that the ego trip is out of the way, it's time for another ego trip! The Player Stats as compiled by Dan McKeen are now viewable on a web page (as opposed to in an .xls file) since I decided to learn some basic asp. The fruits of this evolutionary step are available here, and in the future stats will be available in this format very soon after the events. In addition, I have promised myself to send the second set of photos to be developed tomorrow, so they should be back by the weekend, and therefore up on the site by the beginning of next week. Tomorrow's regs night update will be business as usual, since although I will not be playing after picking up yet another ankle injury, I will be in attendance. Thanks.

It's official: Yesterday was the best day EVER in the history of the site, as for the first time we reached 100 hits in 1 day. The count was 100 exactly, blowing away the next nearest, of 71, from last week. Thanks

Photos from the Jammy Dodgers versus Shadow Warriors are up now as well, there's 22 of them and I'm not exactly the best photographer in the world. But nonetheless, here they are.

The Q-Zar World Championships Review (by Kevin McMahon) is now also online, a week to the day since I first started it. It's a bit long, but in any case it's perfect if you're stuck on a computer and bored in work/school/college/ or at home. You can find it here, and there's also a downloadable and printable version (pdf) to be found on that page as well. That's it for today, until Sunday (because I'm damned if I'm wasting tomorrow like I did today!)

Amazingly enough, the Challenge Match last night did go ahead, even if it was only 4 v 4. Playing for the Jammy Dodgers were Paddy, Zack, Karl and Warren, while the Shadow Warriors consisted of Jamie, Peanut, Simon and Nialls. Two half hour long games were played - once each colour - and regs night followed. For the first game, Jammy Dodgers were Green and Shadow Warriors were Red, and the Shadow Warriors won by 49pts. In the second game, Jammy Dodgers won by 186 pts - to come out win an overall victory of 137pts. Although the same packs were used for both games, some of the red packs were pretty "cheap", which was the subject of some disappointment for both sets of players. Game stats will be posted later, check the message board. Photos will follow tomorrow.

As I said, Regs Night followed the Challenge Match, and everyone was allowed play if they wanted to (even Keith & Eoin). This meant that 15 people played Regs Night - which started a bit late because of the Challenge Match - and 2 games of half hour 8 v 7 were played. This was followed by a 20 minute 3 v 3 game after most people had left. For the first 2 games, the teams were Kev, Blondie, Colin, John McGann (he showed up), Paddy, Keith, Karl L., Jamie versus Al, John L., Karl K., Angela, Zack, Warren, Nialls. It was a close game for the most part, but the reds won out in the end, by 126pts, thanks especially to Karl's Red 11. In the return game, Paddy sat out because he hurt his leg, but that didn't stop the losers from the first game coming back to win by 131pts, and by 5 pts overall! Almost everyone left, and for the last game it was Kev, John, Blondie (Green) versus Al, Karl, Colin (Red). The red team won. Photos were viewed, reviews were read, games were played and bottles were thrown - and that was regs night.

DNF: Challenge Match stats later today, Challenge Match photos and the Competition Review tomorrow, and more Competition photos next week. Oh, and for those of us living in Dublin - flights to England on June 5th/6th/7th are only €25, so you've no excuse...

Regs night is tonight - the single best part of any week. Also, the arranged Challenge Match between Jammy Dodgers and Shadow Warriors scheduled for before Regs Night tonight will (most likely) go ahead as planned, despite rumours to the contrary. I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough. If it does (go ahead, that is), I will have game stats prepared by sometime tomorrow.

Also, the first 24 photos from the Q-Zar World Championships just over a week ago are up on the site, expect more (and better) to follow in the next week or so. I'm sure I took photos of some Americans...
Soon Enough? That's not soon enough.."

Coolock regs night was last night, and there was around 12/13 of us playing: Al, John, Dave S, Angela, Kev, Colin, Graham, Mikey, Ger, Ste M., Jamie, Karl. 3 games, 30 minutes and Supercharge 5, all good, if a bit too post-competitiony, and some of the packs weren't great, but what do you expect with a competition just a week ago. Happy Birthday to Philly "Bonds" Doyle, I can't remember your age, but you're old anyways. Fun night, plus the Q-Zar World Championships review was posted on the Coolock notice board last night for all to see (and admire the attack on Graham :)). So there.

DNF: Challenge Match in Tallaght this Wednesday at 7.30pm Jammy Dodgers versus The Shadow Warrriors, followed by Regs Night as usual. Should be fun....

Sunday, April 06, 2003

Sunday Morning Update: 16 people played in the Regs games this morning, the usual Kev, Conor, Dave S, Blondie, Ger, Karl, Zack, Warren, Angela, Keith & Eoin were joined by Shadow Warriors Jamie, Peanut, Nials and Snobs, and John Lynch. We managed to squeeze in 3 × 20 minute games of E4 and despite a couple of really dodgy packs, the games were good. For the first game, the teams were: Red (Conor, Kev, Blondie, Zack, Angela,Keith, Eoin, Jamie) versus Green (Dave S, John, Ger, Karl, Warren, Peanut, Nials, Snobs), and the red team won by over 300pts! Just to prove our superiority, we went back in same teams different colours, and the winning team from the last game lost by around 100pts. Good games. In the last game, there was a clash of heads between Angela and Kev, Angela coming off worse, with a nose bleed which ended her game. We were both on the same team, so that kind of fecked things up as far as numbers went, and the Red team (Conor, Kev, Angela, Zack, Eoin, Ger, Peanut, Nials) lost by just over 50pts.

There's a Challenge Match coming up: this Wednseday in Tallaght (before regs night) Jammy Dodgers will take on the Shadow Warriors in a 5 or 4 man challenge match to the death. Well, not to the death, but it should make for an interesting tie. So be there, and be square! "Yabba dabba do, I like talkin' to You!!"

Just a couple of site updates today:

First of all, this week saw the highest ever daily hit count, as we got 71 hits on 1st April. No it's not an April fools joke, just a lot of people checking the website for updates and what have you after the competition. Also, yesterday we reached 8000 hits, and that all in under 9 months. Thanks.

In a project that I've been undertaking over the last month or so, I was trying to perfect the source code of the site so that it would be backwards compatible with older browsers, such as Netscape 4.7. And today I managed to get it done, and upload the newer pages. Next up, Dan put up the Competition Stats this morning, you can find them on the newsgroups, the Tallaght message board, or at Angela's Website. So you've no excuse. I also have an excel copy of the stats available for download from the downloads page.

More good news, expect the first few photos and a competition review to follow in the next week.

Regs Night update: Last night only 10 people played, it seems that most people were still recovering from the weekend. Also, John was yet to return the 10 best Tallaght packs which he borrowed, so the ones we were left to play with were a bit less than completely functional. The 10 people who played were Karl, Dave 2, Colin, Ger, Warren, Kev, Al, and Dan, Anthony & Ryan, who came over to play in Tallaght, playing Q-Zar in Ireland for one last time before their flight home, which was this morning. Thanks again for playing guys. Three games were played, each of which were 30 minute, Supercharge 5, with 3 second base-delay. The teams for the first 2 games were Dan, Ryan, Dave, Colin and Warren versus Al, Kev, Anthony, Ger and Karl. For the first game, Al's team was green and we won by just over 100pts. We switched colours and then Dave's team won by just over 100pts, but we won on point difference. Kev and Dave picked the teams for the last game, and they were as follows: Green - Kev, Al, Ryan, Colin, Warren, Red - Dave, Dan, Anthony, Ger, Karl. The green team won again, this time big, thanks to some terrible packs, including one which managed to earn Warren over 20000pts. In the words of Dave, "That pack is wrecked!". The games were fun, laid back in nature - typical post competition, and it was just a fun games night, since you could hardly take it serious with those packs (Green 5!!).

I'm working on a review right now, it should be available by Sunday, but if we're lucky by the end of tomorrow. Worst case scenario, it doesn't get completed until next Wednesday. Photos will be developed next week, we're looking at an eta of a fortnight for them. Also, Dan McKeen is working on the individual player stats for the competition, we can expect him to post them within the next couple of days. "Who keeps moving the base!"

The competition is well and truly over by now, most of the English and the Americans have already left for home, some of them are already home, and some just want to stay and play more q-zar. First things first, in spite of the shambolic organisation, the weekend was fun for pretty much everybody, even those of us who lost :). Well, let's start with the Group from friday afternoon.

Group A (friday afternoon - final placing)
1st Team Jugg (USA A)
2nd Masters of the Universe (MOTU :))
3rd MRS
4th Freelance
5th Shadow Warriors

Only losing 1 leg, Team Jugg qualified as winners. MOTU, having lost only twice (once to MRS, once to Team Jugg) qualified second. MRS went into the playoffs, while Freelance and Shadow Warriors were eliminated.

Group B (saturday morning - final placing)
1st Covmouth
2nd Enfield
3rd Army of Spam
4th Bradford

Covmouth, despite losing twice, qualified first due to better points difference against Enfield. Enfield came in second, having lost as many games. Army of Spam progressed into the playoffs, after a controversial last game win versus Covmouth. Bradford were unfortunately eliminated, by 2pts.

Group C (saturday afternoon - final placing)
1st BORG
2nd 1.4 Spira Gira
3rd KY Jelly Babies
4th Jammy Dodgers

Borg went undefeated in the group stages (the only team to do so) to qualify as winners.
1.4 Spira Gira only lost to the Borg, to qualify as runners up. KY advanced into the playoffs, while Jammy Dodgers were eliminated.

Playoffs (saturday night - final placing)
1st MRS
2nd KY Jelly Babies
3rd Army of Spam

MRS beat USA B twice, and got a walkover against KY, who had to get the last bus home (such was the lateness). Therefore MRS qualified as winners. KY Jelly Babies scraped past Army of Spam in both legs, to qualify second, while Army of Spam were eliminated.

Double Elimination (all day sunday - final placing)
1st Team Jugg (pld (legs) - 8) (won - 8) (lost - 0)
2nd BORG (pld (legs) - 10) (won - 5) (lost - 5)
3rd MRS (pld (legs) - 10) (won - 7) (lost - 3)
4th Covmouth (pld (legs) - 8) (won - 4) (lost - 4)
5th MOTU (pld (legs) - 6) (won - 2) (lost - 4)
6th Enfield (pld (legs) - 6) (won - 1) (lost - 5)
7th 1.4 Spira Gira (pld (legs) - 4) (won - 1) (lost - 3)
8th KY Jelly Babies (pld (legs) - 4) (won - 0) (lost - 4)

Team Jugg won comfortably in the final against BORG. Dan McKeen won the Triple Crown - 2s, 1s and the Team Competition. Player of the Competition was awarded to Michael O'Connor. The finals were finished at 1.35am on the Sunday Night.

That's it for now, the next update will be after Regs Night this Wednesday. A Review and Competition Photos (of which there are over 60) will be completed within the next 2 weeks.
