I apologise for the short break in updates, although there is no big excuse like being busy - I'm just a lazy bastard.

Anyway, we've missed 2 Regs Nights (one was a regs morning - Christmas Eve) and 3 birthdays, and Christmas. The birthdays were for Zack Brennan [15] (the 17th), Conor Farrell [25] (the 18th), and Al O'Loughlin [19] (the 26th). Oh, and I couldn't have been arsed posting a merry christmas message on December 25th.

Because the regs nights were a while ago, I can't actually remember much (or anything) about them, luckily for those who were either not there or crap.

Anyway, Regs Night this week can't actually take place on Wednesday Night this week (it being New Years Eve and all) so it will be held on Wednesday afternoon, from 12pm to 3 or 4. Also, the second Challenge Match will be held this coming Sunday, the 4th of January. Hopefully the teams will be more complete than last time, while the team consisting of Kev, Al, Conor, Blondie, Karl and Warren will be looking for revenge after their surprise defeat almost a month ago now.

At least I can remember enough of last night's Regs Night to do a recap, but it was one of those not so memorable ones that will eventually drift off into the abyss. It was never going to be a big one, with Angela in Galway, Conor unable to attend, Dave in work, Colin in a cast, and Blondie "taking it easy" to avoid slipping his disc. So, there was only 7 of us: Al, Kev, Karl, Ger, Paddy, Zack & Ben. The first game was a 3 on 3 - Ben was yet to arrive - with Kev, Karl and Ger (Red) taking on Al, Paddy & Zack (Green). It was a good, competitive warm-up (20 mins, Super 3), and despite the fact that the Red were leading right from the start (after a wonderful base), the Green clung on and mounted a late comeback to win by 13pts. And we were thwarthed in our attempts to have a rematch by Ben's arrival.

The second game was another 20mins Super 3 game, with Al, Kev & Ger (Green) versus Karl, Zack, Paddy & Ben (Red). Despite having the better team, the Greens made hard work for themselves (or rather Ger did!) but won out in the end by 55pts.

Cue some unexpected (but predictable) Leisureplex Stupidity ©, in that they had no staff to cover a break so they begged Al to do so. This meant that he had to "marshal" and look after reception, which in turn meant that he couldn't play the game. Back to 3on3 so. This was another Super 3 game (I'd have been better off saying that they all were) with Kev, Zack & Ben (Red) against Karl, Paddy & Ger (Green). Fair teams they may have seemed to be, but that wasn't how the game turned out, with the Red team winning comfortably (by155pts) with a couple of bases along the way, in a game that the Green team wanted to be over after only 5 minutes.

Al was able to play the last game, and so we decided to have a rematch of the second game, with Kev, Al & Ger (Red) taking on Karl, Zack & Paddy (Green) again. It was pretty much the same as the first time round, with the Red team winning by 45pts.

Anyone going to Bedford in February? Is it even on?

Regs Night was another good one, although the max amount of people playing was 9. Absentees included Ben, Jay, Colin, Dave, Blondie, Karl L, & John, leaving us with Al, Kev, Conor, Karl, Angela, Ger, Paddy, Zack, Warren. All games were Supercharge 3, and all were 30 minutes (3 of them) but the last game which was only 20 minutes long. Angela could only play the first 2 games before a headache made her stop, so for the second last game it was 4on4 instead of 4on5. Both Ger and Conor (lazy bastardness must run in the family) sat out the last game, which unfortunately is the only one I can remember enough about to recap. The teams were Al, Karl, Zack (Green) versus Kev, Paddy & Warren (Red). The Green team won what was a very easy game for them by approximately 100pts. Oh and the packs were fine, not a complaint made all night. "I'd just like to use this occasion to announce my retirement, undefeated from the world of video boxing."

Last night the first in the series of "Challenge Matches" were played, with neither of the 10 player squads at their best, with a few players missing. Two 15 minute E4 games were played, with Quasar 500 Rules applying as usual. The imaginatively named teams were as follows:
Team A
Dave Shiels (c)
Angela Dwane
Paddy Kelly
Ger Byrne
Zack Brennan
Karl Laffan

Subs
Bort
That Guy

Players Unavailable
Colin McAnaspie
John McGann
Team B
Kevin McMahon (c)
Conor Farrell
Karl Kelly
David Scully
Stephen Warren
Keith Raftery

Players Unavailable
Alan McMahon
Alan O'Loughlin
Jay
Martin
Ben

For the first game, Team A were Red, while overwhelming favourites Team B were Green. Surprisingly, thanks to their effective floaters, Team A took an early lead, and led for most of the game by between 50 & 100pts. But in the final few minutes, a few tactical switches from Team B brought them back into the game and they eventually won by 65pts.

The second game was a different story altogether, in that Team A never once looked like losing their lead, of around 100pts, from the moment they got it after just a couple of minutes. Team B, unable to motivate themselves enough & stop the opposition float, couldn't pull out another comeback, despite the many tactical switches that they tried to implement. In the end of the game, Team A (who were Green) won by 89pts. This gave them an unexpected but well deserved win of 24pts in the first game of the series, with plenty more good games to come.

All in all it was a succesful first match, although a bit short at only 15 minutes per leg, with some good competitive Quasar played and everyone now looking forward a couple of weeks for the next one. What more could you want?"A victory, perhaps??"
