12 people managed to show for Regs Night this week, although we didn't start til relatively late because we were waiting half an hour for the last of them (Karl Kelly) to show. But we managed to get 3 × 30 minutes and 1 × 15 minutes E4 games. Players were Al, Kev, Dave, Colin, Blondie, Karl, Ger, Paddy, Zack, Warren, Keith, Ben. It would've been easier to list the 2 people who didn't show - Conor and Angela. At least one of them had an excuse. Anyway, the first 2 games were as follows: Red - Al, Colin, Karl, Blondie, Ger, Ben versus Green - Kev, Dave, Zack, Warren, Paddy, Keith. Despite having a 200pt lead towards the end of what was a very good game, the Reds couldn't hold on for the last 5 minutes (when Dave got it together) and lost by a painful 12pts. Therefore we went in again for a rematch, and this time it was a more straighforward victory for the same team, who were Red this time, thanks to some useless tactics employed by their opponents.

Third game: Green - Al, Kev, Blondie, Paddy, Keith, Ben versus Red - Dave, Colin, Karl, Ger, Warren, Zack. Despite having stronger weakest players (if that makes sense), the Red team lost by 346pts. A good game apart from the one-sidedness.

Last Game: 15 minutes, since the clock was ticking, with Dave sitting it out because he was wrecked (aw!). Teams were Kev, Warren, Ben, Paddy, Blondie, Ger (Green) versus Al, Colin, Karl, Zack & Keith (Red). The Green team won by 87pts, thanks mostly to having the extra man. Another good regs night over, next up is the Challenge Match on Sunday, the third in the "series", starting at 8.00pm sharp. And Bedford is only 1 weekend away.

There were only 2 people who won all the games on Wednesday - Paddy & myself, and incidentally, we're the only 2 Quasar people with January birthdays: Paddy was 18 on the 16th, I was 20 on the 27th. Good old useless information. "Yes, the future's been sold!!"

Yet another good turnout for regs night this week (with last week being 11 people in total), as we had 10 players, and consequently 5 games of 20 minute E4, followed by a solitary Super 3, 4v4.

Those of us who played are: Al, Kev, Conor, Colin, Ger, Paddy, Zack, Warren, Keith, Ben. The first 2 games saw Al, Conor, Ger, Paddy, Zack versus Kev, Colin, Warren, Keith & Ben with both teams winning a leg each. But the overall victory went to the former, who won the first by 117pts, but lost the return leg by 35pts. The red team winning both games this time.

For the 3rd & 4th games, the teams were adjusted slightly (even though it was a completely new pick) with Al, Kev, Paddy, Keith, Ben versus Conor, Colin, Ger, Zack, Warren. The former won both games, the first by 212pts, and the second by 95pts.

The last E4 game of the night was Al, Colin, Conor, Zack, Keith (Red) versus Kev, Paddy, Warren, Ger & Ben (Green), with the Green team pulling off a surprise victory of 7pts (thanks in no small part to the 16-base single player attack :)). Conor was too sick (as usual) to play the final game, giving Ger the perfect opportunity to sit one out. So we went back in with the same teams Al, Colin, Zack, Keith (Green) v Kev, Paddy, Warren, Ben (Red), where revenge was served up in easily the worst game of the night - the Green team winning by 61pts.

Another good (E4) regs night overall, although the frequency with which the red packs reset or just couldn't do things properly was a bit of concern causing numerous pack changes (although none of them were becuase they couldn't be hit). Here's hoping for some 6v6's next week - although now I've just eliminated any chance we had. "Kids, say NO to running into walls."

I'm getting lazy again, but at least this time I'm putting things up before I forget them. Two things to go through this update, them being the 2nd Challenge Match which was played on Sunday (4th) and Regs Night last wednesday.

As was expected, the "better" team recovered from their defeat in the first match (24pts) with a win in each leg this time and an overall margin of victory of 374pts (with the series tied at 1 game each). But this had much to do not only with Team A being without Karl L & Zack (Bort & That Guy were the replacements), but also with Team B having captain Al McMahon & Al O'Loughlin playing instead of the absent Karl Kelly & David Scully. So the teams were as follows:

Team A: Dave Shiels (c); Colin McAnaspie; Angela Dwane; Ger Byrne; Bort; That Guy;
Team B: Al McMahon (c); Kevin McMahon; Conor Farrell; Al O'Loughlin; Stephen Warren; Keith Raftery;

Team B won the first game by 228pts and the second leg by146pts (overall difference of 374pts). Expect the next Challenge Match at the end of the month.

On to Regs Night, and although 5 games were played, the first 2 didn't matter since they were only 15mins and I wasn't there. For the last 3 games however, the turnout was a good 11, meaning that we could play some E4. Participants were Al McMahon, Kev McMahon, Dave Shiels, Colin McAnaspie, Karl Kelly, Angela Dwane, Ger Byrne, Paddy Kelly, Zack Brennan, Stephen Warren & Keith Raftery. For the first (3rd) game (E4 30mins) myself and Karl picked the teams, and they ended up as follows: Karl, Dave, Colin, Zack, Warren & Keith (Red) versus Al, Kev, Angela, Ger, Paddy (Green). The Red team (with their extra man) didn't seem to use their advantage well enough to mount a serious lead, and in fact were losing for most of the game until a capitulation from the Green defence in the last moments handed the game to the Reds by 37pts. Since it was close, we played a return leg, but this time it was more straightforward for the bigger team, who won again, this time by 112pts.

For the last game the teams were re-shuffled - Al, Kev & the Jammy Dodgers (Paddy, Warren, Zack) were Green against the six player team of Dave, Karl, Angela, Colin, Keith & Ger (Red). Workable tactics from the greens, a solid (for the most part) defence and a part-time quickfire attack, did the trick, and they won by 113pts."A bit of steam there!"

Happy New Year!!

Yet another December Quasar Birthday went by yesterday, Al McMahon was 22 on the 31st. It being a Wednesday we had our usual dose of Quasar (albeit in the morning) and only 8 people played. They were Al, Kev, Paddy, Blondie, Zack, Warren, Kieth & That Guy (who normally wouldn't play regs night, but since he was there, there were few people, and technically it wasn't a Regs Night....)

It wasn't the worst regs mornining by any stretch of the imagination, thankfully. As has already been said, the 2nd Challenge Match will be held this Sunday (the 4th) at 8.00pm. Just for those who can't remember, the teams are Al, Kev, Conor, Karl, Blondie, Warren, Keith, Jay, Ben, Martin on Team A (as yet un-named) and Dave, Colin, Angela, Ger, John, Paddy, Zack, Karl L, Bort, That Guy on Team B. Players who can't make it should probably contact their captains with the good/bad news asap, them being Al McMahon and Dave Shiels respectively, so that they can plan ahead and avoid a repeat of last time. Until then. "I won't live in a town that robs men of the right to marry their cousins." Em, ok!
